Post UGH.. failed NOx emissions, what now?

I failed NOx emissions by like 300pts :\

I am told [without anyone really looking at it in detail] that it is probably the catalytic convertor .. and am greatly disheartened to see that these sell for $535+. Is there an alternative solution for less?

Maybe Craig944 or someone else who is proposing to gut their cat might be willing to organise an exchange with you?

Sorry, I live in CA, so I need mine!

You can get a universal high flow replacement aftermarket cat for $80-$200 depending on where you shop, and have a shop weld on new flanges (prolly $50 or so) so it bolts up to your stock exhaust system. After you pass emissions, you can take your old stock cat, gut it with a broomstick, bolt it back on, and pick up a little grunt.

Do you have a after market chip in the car? If so that is most likely the problem if all the other emission reading are fine. If you indeed need a converter there is dealer in Alabama called Charlie Brown converters. Sorry, I don't have the phone#. You can also call PAP for a used one 1-800-944-2964.

I'm getting a new exhaust system.
Headers - Test pipe - muffler
If my cat comes off w/ this I'll sell you mine for 175$ - w/ only 43K on it.

Tweeks sells CATs for 944 for about $189, but they are probably not original Porsche (so what), that's where I'm going when I get around to replacing mine.

I had the same problem about a week ago.

My exhaust was cracked right in front of the catalytic converter and the CO test port was not capped.

If your exhause is noiser than it should be you might want to search for these leaks.

I got mine welded for $12 and got a cap from the plumping store to put over the CO test port and it passed smog in CA after doing this.
