Turbocharged 944na
So as I was looking around online I ran into this... http://www.ststurbo.com/universal_turbo_systems This would be really cool if this worked. could this work well? Im doing a ton of work on my car already so Im not worried about that. i just want to know how well it'd work and not sacrafice reliability.

I'd like to refer you to http://roguetuning.com/944na_internals_-_the_limit
Be cautious and you certainly can turbo your NA, however I have never heard of the STS turbo systems before so cannot provide feedback on the product they produce.

Just actually read your link... That sounds pretty cool, didn't know you could have a "remote" turbo system

Could you fit a turbo where the muffler is? Probably. It would require substantial fabrication to run the oil and water lines to the turbo as well as the mounts to ensure the turbo doesn't move around (I don't think the muffler mounts would be up to the weight of a turbo, but I could be wrong).
At that point, it would probably be easier to modify the radiator mounts to fit a 951 intercooler or just swap in a 951 radiator mount. You could then swap in a 951 motor mount to mount a turbo in the factory location and swap in the factory 951 turbo plumbing (intake/exhaust, etc.) to hook up the turbo. It's a lot of work, but if you're determined to turbocharge your N/A, it can be done

There are many places to put a turbo, but each one will require some combination of money and time.
I've heard of STS. Look at the Callaway 944 turbos for more ideas.

If converting the 944NA to turbo - then just use the 951 parts...
Readily available, proven to work, and will bolt-on with minimal to no fabrication.

For the S2 motor, you would need to either modify the intake and exhaust manifolds or swap in a 2.7l 8v head from an 89 944 n/a. If you're already replacing the pistons, swapping the head wouldn't be a ton of extra work (assuming the water passages line up, which I believe they do). However, finding a good condition 2.7l n/a head is easier said than done and they usually command a premium when they do come up for sale.
No matter what, however, if you're building a 3.0l turbo engine, you would need to either reprogram the 951 DME (usually done by just swapping in a new chip or getting a piggyback computer) or get a standalone engine management system.

A friend of mine has the STS kit on a Trans Am, they seem pretty well put together and gave him a good amount of support during the install, I cant remember what forum it was on but theres a guy who has a VW Golf the MK2 body with a 944 NA driveline and he put a remote mounted turbo on it. If your going to really run low boost perhap supercharging would be a better way to go, I read ALOT of threads about people using the m90 eatons on these with great sucess, Blown 944 on here has "lil mule" if I'm correct and you can find all kinds of threads on that car, it is properly quick too.... Sorry to write you a novel haha I looked very heavily into remote turbo setups and have it written down somewhere my plan for the lay out, I was going to use a remote resevior in the spare tire well for oil with a similar oil pump like what they use for most rear mounts, i didnt like the idea of running an oil line from the front to the back. The biggest obstacle I see is where you will route the charge piping.
