I've stretched tires many times in the past, but always smaller sizes like a 205 on a 9" rim. It's safe if done right and keep the tire pressure higher than usual. About 40psi is good.

Because of the stretch reducing the overall diameter, you think I could get away with a 245/50/16?

That size should be just fine.

Here is mine after getting some tires mounted today. The stretch is pretty radical, but when mounted up on the car I'm not sure if I like it. I think I need to either lower the rear of the car some more (which means I'll have to reindex the t-bars [sigh]) or just go with some wider tires since it appears they may actually have the room for them. These are 245/40/17 and I think I can throw a pair of 255/40/17 on instead which should help the appearance.

I like it, the stretch doesn't seem too bad.

It does need to be lower though, I agree. Plus you need the fronts, then it'll look truly great.
I've already relpaced my T-bars with 28" and re-indexed for lower ride height so I should be good to go.

I'm on the fence once again, gotta decide soon. Thanks so much for the pics Elliot, they've been a HUGE help.

I have those Forgelines RS Competitions on my car, but they aren't that wide! Great wheels... very light and strong.

Man, that level of stretch reminds me an awful lot of the Japanese drift team that Might Car Mods interviewed in their movie Turbos and Temples.

I think it's a pretty cool look and matches the level of detail your car. That said, it's a matter of personal taste

Lower it shall be. If the weather is good this weekend, I will make it happen.

No problem! I figured since I was right in the middle of test fitting those 11's with low offset I would post some pictures. If you get the chance, post a pic of the wheels you're considering buying!

You sir!.. I remember seeing pics of your car a while back with the Forgelines on it and thinking to myself... Dang, I gotta get a set of those, someday! Well I'm half way there anyhow
Are yours 17 or 18's? I'm having trouble finding pictures of these wheels on 944's.

The sport of drifting and the drifting culture is partly where my inspiration came from when building my other cars. I didn't exactly want to go that route with this car but I guess I just can't get away from it!

On a mission now to slam the car unnecessarily low and hide some tire.

I wish my orange car was running so I could just drive this around instead!

For those interested, this is the vid that I'm referring to:

I love the look of the orange car with white wheels. How much longer is it off the road for?

No offense but that was the longest and most boring drifting video I've ever seen. Hardly any actual drifting in the film. I would consider it a poor representation of the sport and culture.

I appreciate the comment about the orange car though, I believe it will be a long while before it's back on the road again. I would be lucky if it was done by the end of 2013... It's going to be a beast when it's done though!
