Porsche moved the valve to the front on the S and S2, which keeps it from leaking onto the clutch. The only negative is that it makes getting to the oil filter a little harder.

Can one of you give the specifics on the Audi model where a metal replacement valve can be found? Year/submodel/engine?

The all metal HCV for the Audi I know of is made by 4 Seasons with part #74671. However, based on my experience, you can get either the all metal part or the half-plastic-half-metal part. Both parts have the same part number and getting one or the other depends on which online supplier you are getting it from. Both are better than the all plastic OEM part IMO.

Btw, my friend fabricated a relocation kit for the HCV for the early, late and all 16V 944s models. He has it installed on his '85 944 with 968 motor and will be installed on my 3.0L 16V conversion too.

Dimi, to where does your friend relocate the HCV?

Spencer, here is the valve:

Like Dimi said, sometimes they give you a half-plastic one, so return it and buy another one until you get the metal one. I've seen both silver and yellow zinc.

He relocated it to the side of the engine. Right next to the strut tower inline on the coolant return tube.

I think it is OK where it is as long it's not the type that cracks open like an Easter Egg
