When it's cold (and it's COLD in the Midwest right now), my door latch freezes open. IE I pull the handle and the door opens, but then it won't latch when you try and close it.
The first time it happened, I just took the inside door panel off, warmed it up with a torch, and then sprayed it with WD-40 (to displace the moisture that's presumably freezeing). It did it again, of course, and since I don't feel like taking the door apart every time--anyone got any suggestions?

I would use Lithium grease. WD40 is great stuff, but if you start using it you wind up in a situation where you have to reapply it every 6 weeks. Lithium grease will be good for like a year at a time.

Make sure the latch is working properly first, then apply the lithium grease as Thad suggested. Here in NY I have seen this problem many times. Often times it requires removing the latch mechanism, cleaning it well, apply white grease and reassemble.
Good Luck.
