Just slightly off topic - the ultimate Porsche?
With all this talk about off topic posts, I thought I would join the fray (and change the darn topic).
I was just thinking today while I was driving to look at apartments in what will possibly be my new college town (Greenville, NC/ ECU) of what the ultimate Porsche would be.
Aside from all the electrical computer crap they have now days (PSM,ABS,etc.) what would the ultimate Porsche be to you? Feel free to combine any engine, tranny, body, wheels, etc... (only requirement, has to be Porsche).
I'll start:
- 951 body/front-end, 968 rear (and Turbo S spoiler)
- 928 S4 engine (possibly with supercharger)
- 3 piece 18" turbo twists
- Ocean blue, white leather w/blue piping
- 968 6-speed manual (can it take that power?)
Maybe some day I'll make one.
Start dreaming,
Matt

I would want an original Porsche 550 Spyder. As you know, an original 550 will run you $500,000 and up so maybe if we want to dream practical I would go for a red or black 356 Speedster.
I say to hell with safety improvements and these damn computers. I want to go back to the basics and live a little dangerously. I get quite bored driving around town in my comfy and oh-so-safe 951.

My dream Porsche is a '96 911 targa with the sliding glass roof. Of couurse, since we're dreaming, I'd like a turbo or two under the wing. Make it British Racing Green and toss in Tan leather. Saw one just like this (sans the turbos) - it was simply beautiful!

Changing the topic? Do you want to get banned too!!?? Kidding
Actually I was looking at a Road and Track recently (might have been car & driver) and saw an early sketch of the re-encarnated 928, although now it will be designated 998 (if I remember correctly). Its going to get the V-8 that was developed for the Cayenne and there are rumors of a turbocharged variant. Now that is a Viper Killer! Antything is cool as long as its a front engined Porsche!

Ok, seriously, I am trying to make what I feel is a realistic (financially) dream car. I heard the 968 turbo could break 190+ mph, and was droped because it was going to be better, yet cheaper than the flag ship 911. True? Since they only made ~14 of those I new I couldn't get one. But I still like the thought of the little underdog nipen at the heals of the 911 legend. Matt, you asked in that other thread how I was going to get 253hp. I'm droping a 968 3l in. The trany, susp, and breaks, allready 968. Yeah, I know I should have just bought a 968 but I still haven't spent enough to equall the cheapest 968 I've seen. Pluss I can't wait to smoke someone who thinks I'm just driven a stock 88 944. Please, no Craig944 comparisons, god rest is username. I will most likely not break 10-15 over the speed limit off of the track. I spent WAY to much money upgrading this thing to waist it all on some trafic light drag/spin/crash. But on the track, I am looking forward to seeing the needle hit ~160. When I'm used to the ~60% increase in HP, I will start saving up my pennies for a 968 turbo kit, suspension mods, and some bigger breaks, probably BIG REDs. Hey, I can dream right?

Picking the ultimate porsche is not an easy task for me to handle, I think I would like to have a garage of these cars:
944 Turbo stroked out to 3.5L (I talked to turbo tim yesterday and this just sounded too good). All the goodies would be in this one, full coil-over kit, 968 RS sway bars, some MAF, and a k27 turbo, all in a bone stock looking car, black on black, maybe a set of fiske wheels with some r compounds, but that would be the only hint. I like the sleeper look, especially when it is a sleeper with 475 rwhp
I think a 928 with a stroker kit or supercharger would fit nicly in my perfect garage, I don't know a whole lot about them, but I love the look of the GTS.
A 550 spyder for just crusing around, parked next to a 914-6 GT and a Ruf 3400 S (just because the boxter is not enough)
And even though I will sing the praises of the front engined porsche to no end, I would have to have a couple 911's.
a true carrera RS
a 2002 GT-3
at least one 930
hum well I think that would keep me happy

Well I have always had a soft spot for the 944 in all it's forms. My ultimate ride would be this car: KMR 968 Turbo I remember reading about in Excellence and finding out later it was for sale. If I only had $50K burning a hole in my pocket........

To break 190 MPH in a car with the drag coefficient of the 968, you'd have to be pushing about 475 HP to the wheels at the RPM that you would be turning at 190 MPH. While this certainly isn't impossible for a full race-prepped car, it's not going to happen with a production 4-cylinder vehicle.

The ultimate Porsche? Why, it's the one sitting in my (or your) driveway... after we each get done doing all the additions & modifications we dream of .
Make mine an '88-'89 944 na body, 968 drivetrain, with supercharger, Big Red brakes, M030, LSD, etc.... in Audi's version of pearl white, with black full leather.
Jim, might just do this 'un someday....

917.
Put on some turn signals and make sure there is a passenger seat. Hit the one-lap-of-America with 1100 hp of pure german adrenaline.
Perhaps the better choice for reliability would be the Carrera GT.

Matt, you asked in that other thread how I was going to get 253hp. I'm droping a 968 3l in.
Please let me know how that goes. If you want to be "the man" snap pictures along the way! Are you doing it yourself?

Mine is the one I'm building right now, 944S with full 968 black leather interior, just had the dash done in leather, 968 engine, 968 brakes and wheels, 951 rear valance. Front end is to be determined, I may go the 951/S2 route, or leave it alone. I'm keeping the S tranny. I hope to be driving it in the early spring. Then my wife can have the 83.
