I suspect the timing chain/pads/variocam have not been inspected or replaced so I will definitely have a look asap. The chain looks oddly like a motorcycle drive chain. Curious choice for that application.
Their is very good DIY write up on this forum when it will come time to do your chain/pads/tensioner.There is also a specific 968s forum on RL where maybe you could introduce your car.I'm not very good at linking so our friend OD could maybe link you to it.TIA OD

Congrats, that looks like a really nice 968!

They're great cars from the factory, both quality and performance. But with a few little mods here and there, they become unbelievable. For your suspension, I recommend koni yellow shocks and struts. You'd probably also like 200 lb front springs (I believe the stock is somewhere around 160). I had 250lb on my car and it was a little rough for the street, but great on the track. I don't know where the best price is, but I like the site Paragon-Products.com, and they have a lot of options and info.

Those are 17x7" and 17x8.5" (boxster) or 9" (carrera) twists. They're decent wheels, but they're not original. Cast aluminum. Either 7 and 8.5 or 7 and 9. 205 and 255 would be right, but putting a 225 on the front would work better on a 968 which has a lot more weight in the front than a boxster or carrera.

I've never seen a door panel peel up like that before. Remove it and check the fiber board under the vinyl from the back side. If it's damaged, you might need a new panel.

Thanks, I'll check out the fibre board. It is odd as the rest of the doorpanel looks pretty much perfect as does the passenger side.

Thanks for the info on the wheels. Would 225s work well on the 7" front wheels or am I better off looking for slightly wider front wheels?

I'm not completely crazy about the wheels so very open to switching to something different. I think 17" is about the right diameter for my purposes and tastes. Something with a similar appearance, but not twisted (Cup wheels I think?) might be good. Lighter weight is always nice too. Any favorites?

I'm presently running 225-45 ZR 17 front on an 8" Cup 1 wheels & 255-40 ZR 17 on 9.5 rear with Falken 452 as road contact, but you could run the same tires combo on your 7/8.5, this combo is consider one of the best for a street driven car by most 968s owners. As for suspension I'll follow FRporsheman advices if I was you. Cup 1 natural to a 968 & to my (taste) one of the best looking wheels on them.Btw my interior is pretty simular to yours execpt dash & upper doors trims are grey.See pic

Thanks, that is very helpful information. I do very much like those Cup I wheels. Our interiors are indeed very similar! I like the grey dash. If I ever have to replace mine I may switch to that arrangement. What are the leftmost two buttons on the center console (under the clock)? Unless my memory is off I just have two blank plates in those spots.

Ernie, how are you? It's always good to see pics of your car!

There are different schools of thought on what tires work best with what wheels... I can tell you that 225 will definitely work ok on a 7" wheel - my buddy has those same wheels (7 and 9) and runs 225 and 255, and he loves it. My last set of tires were 245 on 7" and 255 on 8.5", and that blew me away with grip! Some widths just won't have the right diameter no matter what, like 245 (it was a few % small). Another friend of mine wants to try 9" 255 all around.

If looks are a factor, i.e. if you want a flat sidewall, or stretch, etc, usually getting wider tires makes it look a little goofy. But who cares? It grips more!

The 17" wheel of that era would be the cup 2, which looks like your current wheels but with straight spokes. The earlier 968s had the cup 1 which is what Ernie has. I don't think there's an earlier 17" wheel, so look at boxsters and 996s for more options (try www.wheelenhancement.com for ideas).

One is the headligths washers on (CDN cars only) the other one(last one is just a blank switch)instead of a plate it came with a blank switch.

The blue one is my car, and those are boxster wheels (I think 2001). 17x7 and 17x8.5.

The black car has cup 2s.
