Default '90 S2 fuel line... replace?

So I've been searching on here and Pelican and can't find threads that talk about replacing fuel lines on an S2 ('90) to avoid possible engine fire. Most of the threads I've read talk about replacing them on earlier years (83-88 I believe) and kits can be found on ebay (Lart) as well as other sites (Rennbay, Lindsey, etc) for the earlier cars.

The only site I found that sells S2 replacement fuel lines was Lindsey Racing. Do S2 owners not have to worry about engine fire due to fuel hose leak in the engine like the earlier cars do?

Any help/clarification is appreciated.

You need to worry about it too. The lines run right over the exhaust.

I think its the limited market, so not many people make replacements. But you (and I) should replace them.

I am replacing all the fuel lines on my S2 with O.E.M parts but I am having trouble locating one in particular even from Porsche Cars Great Britain 944.356.027.14
Q-from the parts department. The fuel line would cost £60.60 including VAT and unfortunately the availability of the item
is scarce. We could order one in for you, however the part does not have a current delivery
date as there is no stock in either the UK or Germany.
If you would like to discuss the potential of ordering the part please do not hesitate to contact
me.
I find it strange that important items like these are not readily available.

if you talk about replacing them, that also helps prevent fire....

after all, it's the thought that counts.

Mine were replaced about 5 years ago and look good, so i'm not feeling bad about them. However i do carry a fire bottle with me in the car. Cheap insurance against a full burn down.

I highly recommend splurging on a lindsey kit for the lines that run over the manifold. Not only are they anodized with stainless lines, but you have the option to get them with the insultherm stuff to really help isolate the lines from the heat coming off of your headers. Not to mention they certainly look the part

Do not skimp on anything fuel or oil related near the header. You might learn the hard way as odurandina has just demonstrated.

Aside from Lindsey and OEM, does anyone else sell them? Based on the feedback I'm certain more S2 owners have changed theirs (although it could've been with the Lindsey kit). Thanks for the feedback guys!

The Lindsey lines look nice but the sneaky little one is the one I'd worry about first.

This stuff is neat if you cannot get a molded line the right size:

Is this line metal on the S2? It (and the damper) were eliminated on the 968. I know the S2 still has a damper.

There is no sneaker little one on the S2 (at least not on my '90)

I agree, that looks cool!

The S2 has 2 lines at the rear and 2 at the front. Luckily, they all have fittings that allow easy replacement vs. the one on my '88)

I'll vouch for these do-dads. I used them on my LTD's heater core when the hoses eventually buckled after a few heat cycles (I was wondering why my heater wasn't working even after changing the bad core).

With those lines: I'm not an S2 owner, but I've installed the lindsey kit on my Turbo. It's good quality, but they left marks from whatever jig they used to make my lines on the fittings... it's only cosmetic though.

I ordered mine with the insotherm as well. Not only because of under-hood temps and summer heat along with it... but I spare no expense when it comes to safety stuff.

As others have notes, on the later models, the flexible hoses that run from the wheel well to the rail are OE parts that can be replaced with resorting to kits. Don't know about availability. In the US, dealer parts guys have access to one system that tells 'em what dealers have any given part on their shelves, as well as what PCNA has (not much). They also have a system called Polaris that tells them what PAG has back home.

Over the past ten years or so, metric fittings for DIY plumbing (a la Aeroquip) have become massively more available to us. If PCNA were to no longer make the parts, you could certainly go to guys like Lindsey for them, or any decent race shop should be able to fabricate them with hose and fittings from places like Pegasus Racing. Making the hoses up isn't rocket science, but it should be done carefully and with the right parts (like hose that's intended for fuel, not coolant). Carroll Smith's books are great resources on this topic.

Thanks Kevin for your insight. I'm comparing pricing now of the OEM pieces vs. aftermarket. I read in another thread that should a hose leak it will be difficult to see/notice with the braided lines and that got me thinking.
