Default How many miles can i get out of a full tank.

I know the answer is here somewhere, but can't find it.

How many miles am i expected to get out of a full tank in a 951. This is with normal driving barley any boost and no more then 4k rpm.

My ODO doesn't work so i need to work out roughly how far i've gotten with a full tank.

Thanks!

with a full tank, running down to the last gallon you should be able to pull off over 500 miles per tank on a highway trip. if youre just going around town its closer to 300 miles.

I avg 20mpg around town. When my light comes on it usually takes a little over 18gal to fill up. I haven't really pushed it but am pretty sure I could get close to 400 mi per tank. I drive about 50/50 hwy & surface roads...

I have gotten 28 MPG in the 944. It was about 440 miles on the tank. I didn't want to go any further in fear of running out of gas.

About 350 is the most I have ever dared to get from one tank...that would be driving a few miles after the light has come on. I have calculated around 18-21 MPG no matter how I drive...I think there is something wrong with my car

i did 630 from Jacksonville to just south of D.C.

lot of flat highway, kept it between 65~70 mph, lots of kind of drafting behind trucks, no catalytic, superior nose design and fully inflated tires.... i ran out of gas pulling into the station in, (if my memory serves me), Stafford, VA. i should have written it down, but i think my car took 21.60 gallons of gas. something like that. oh, and my odometer is dead on.

driving 968.

That's a great story, factory brochure states 21.1 gallon cap. and 88 turbo s factory window sticker states 19 mpg city 27mpg highway. max. 569.7, but i can see getting 30 mpg. i still like the coasting in empty story. have a great day and GOD BLESS.

Well, I make it from Sydney to Bathurst and back on a tank.

Honestly though, I have no idea how far I go on a tank. The Odo has never worked properly

Hmm, I really should get my ODO working again. I'm not sure if my motor is drinking more because of my new cam or i've driven a lot in the past week..

One time I did a 440-mile highway trip on one tank. I started with a full tank and the reserve light came on just seconds before i reached my destination. I was trying to preserve fuel, so I was driving a bit reservedly. This was in a 968, which presumably gets worse fuel economy than a 951.

uh, no, i'd say a 968 would be better than a 951 on gas, you get the extra gear which lowers rpm's

How so? The 968's 6th gear is 0.778 and the final drive is 3.778, so the effective ratio for 6th is 2.938. The 951's 5th gear is 0.829, however the final drive is 3.375, so the effective ratio for 5th is 2.796, which is lower than the 968's 6th. So in highest gear, the 951 will always be revving lower than a 968.

Also, the 968 has more displacement which usually means more fuel consumption. Also, a turbocharged engine will have better mpg than an NA engine with comparable power. The 951's torque peaks at 3500, as opposed to the 968's peak at 4200rpm. This means that at any typical highway speed, the 951 will be closer to its torque peak, which is more efficient.

This is all inductive reasoning; I haven't driven my 951 long enough to measure the economy first-hand.
