Replacing Clutch Very Near!
Well, if you don't already know, I have a worn clutch disc, and I'm going to be replacing my clutch, and using Pelican Parts clutch kit. I'm not taking it anywhere. My dad seems to be confident we can do it together on 16" jack stands. Can I get some detailed pro's and con's to this? If he were to know of some major problems he might run into, he might reconsider doing it ourselves. The real reason I post this, is I always hear how 'hard' this job is. Even jobs people say are 'easy' are still tedious.

Craig,
I have only removed two transmissions from these cars, and let me tell you.. it was a nightmare and was not any easier the second time.
I do not want to tell you not to do it, but it is a major undertaking and very time consuming even with a lift and the proper tools. With just jackstands you are in for a lot of broke nuckles.
Just my opinion.

I guess I do it wrong but I just lift the car and drop the crossmember at the front, support the torque tube and haul the engine out, it does take about 3 hours to do but it's relativly easy, a quick bolt check and new clutch and your done in 5 hours,( I usually have renewed vigor putting it all back and no siezed bolts.

2 people can get the transmission out, it took 3 to get it back in. But 2 big guys could put it back in, I am just not that big.
I balanced the transmission on a floor jack to get it down. Same to get it back up.

That write up is actually pretty nice and straightforward. If I was able to get a hold of a proper lift or rent a garage for a week I would probably give it a shot myself when/if the time comes. As with any project, without the proper working enviroment any job will quickly become frustrating.
Now, which turbo years have the dual crossover pipe and what exactly is he talking about?

I am currently having my clutch being replaced on my 1987-944S.After toying with the idea of doing it myself,I decided not to.I decided to take it to a local All Transmission World here in Orlando. The book says 9.5 hours to R+R the transmission, torque tube and clutch.I was lucky that they allowed me to buy my own parts and they installed them. They are also replacing all the syncros.Bottom line is that I will get my car back tomorrow, they will have replaced clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, all syncros for a total price of aprox. $1375.00 including freight for parts, tax and everything else.I may have been able to do the job myself but I thing I made out pretty good and I have a warranty on parts and labor.Hope this helps.
