Default 944S sealed from struts - shock replacement?

I searched some and found what I think is the bad news. my 87 944S has sealed struts, so either replace the whole strut/shock OR get Konis and cut/drill out the existing strut.

before I take the unpleasant/expensive plunge, any other options?

dang, there goes the budget.

I would do the konis, bilstiens or boges, used struts are likely to be no better than what you have already.

OK, looking for options. the used struts may not be in good enough shape.

does anyone know if any other 944 struts with replaceable shock cartridges will work on an 87 944S?

I have a pair of known good Koni shock cartridges. so if I can get a set of used struts that allow the replacement and will work on this car it would be a good option.

I know ... I know... just get the Konis from Paragon. but trying to keep this toy car for my bro in his budget.

The early struts used the insert style housings and require a different hub. Your cheap way out is the konis and doing the hacksaw mod. Paragon has them for 145 each right now

There is a mod you can do in order to fit any insert

catamax944, I do not have access to that site. I am aware of the Konis that bolt from the bottom. and I suspected the answer I got from Arominus.

thanks for the replies.

no , i wasn't refering to the konis , this is a mod that allows you to use any type on insert ,bodge ,sachs, bilstein etc...
Basically converting the struts to be rebuildable like the early ones, it's not easy but it can be done pretty cheap.
Just register to the forum and you will have access .

got logged in. ah ... the trick is to have someone weld a threaded collar on top the old strut after cutting off the crimped area? too much for my skill level.

helloooo Paragon .....
