Hey guys,
Is is smart or feasible to bolt on a aftermarket or 951 turbo to a 944 na? would you run the intercooler next to the radiator, or would all that have to be changed?
Just curious if anyone has done it or heard of anyone who has done it. I would suppose it would shorten the life of the engine?
Thanks fellas (and ladies),
Matt

It would be neither smart nor feasable.
1. You would have to lower your compression ration. This would mean new con-rods/pistons.
2. It is cheaper to buy a 951 powerplant and bolt it in.

Oh man...anyway if you go on the pelican parts bbs, there is a guy that has the rimmer on his car and seems to really enjoy it. Try a search for the thread. Good luck getting artificially aspirated.

As has been said many times before around these parts by many wise folks, the easiest (and generally cheapest and least frustrating) way to make a 944 na go faster is to to trade it on a 944 Turbo, or at least an S2; they come not only with more power, but with upgraded suspension & brakes to handle that extra power.
Jim, who upgraded his '88 na by swapping the whole dang car (+$) for a 968....also a recommended option

I owned an '85NA from 1986 to 1996 and loved every moment of it. However, I always longed for more power. I too solved the power problem by upgrading to a 951. The difference can't be expressed in writing.
The incredible performance of the 951 can be had for less than the price of a New Beetle. There are significant costs to properly maintain it, but a well maintained car will provide years of enjoyment. If you've got the bug for power, just trade up. (Then start tinkering!)
