nicer as in NEWER, yes, but styling wise (not counting the era differences), NO.

Just imagine what a new 944, (maybe call it the 950 or 955?) would look like.
I actually have a soft spot for the 924 turbo. I thought the Hyuandi (sp?) coupe was closer to the 944 than the FRS

The Toyosuba isn't a bad platform and with more power could be alright. I just don't think Porsche could or should produce anything at that price point. I do agree a more stripped down track oriented budget minded type of car would be nice, but would probably come in much more expensive than this car.
I agree, but if porsche could make a coupe for $45k I buy one in a heart beat(as long as it doesnt look like a 911 or boxster from the front!!!)

Default the new 944 What would it be if you were the designer?

I have a 1986 NA that is my new project car. I just took it out of 10 years in storage and it started on the second try! It was mechanically sound with a fresh engine clutch, flywheel, AC and half shafts before being stored. I am now in the process of widening the body to accept electric traction motors and update the look to my idea of what a new 944 should be both mechanically and esthetically. Any suggestions or discussion is welcome.

Default 944 low end torque

The low end torque or lack there of is a problem I hope to address with a set of bolt on electric traction motors that will hopefully boost torque te EACH wheel by 100 Nm ( 75) ft./lbs.

Unfortunately when Porsche builds a stripped down track oriented car they tend to charge more for it not less

look at the car in your avatar. i mean, just look at that thing. and you're all running that platform. how seldom it is
mentioned how bit by bit, we all can build and drive a car like that !! and any 944 or 968 can run a transmission combo
with a redline that ranges from 180~200 mph, and several engine combos that will destroy all the so-called 944ish,
modern blah, blah, blah cars.

haven't you all ever come up on your cars while they were sitting in a poorly lit parking lot, from say, a couple of hundred
feet back... about 30 degrees off the *** end and just stopped dead and gazed at the silhouette of your cars in amazement ?

i love that red car pictured below. i'd love to have it. if only i could fix it. but i can't install a 200 mph transmission in that car.
the new Vette is the nuttiest ride for $52 k in history.... still, what you can do with the 944/968 for $25~70 k....

Oh... and there's also this....

Mustang GT. Not the same type of car obviously, but if it were me, it'd be hard to justify spending that money on a 200hp car when I can get one that's 420hp. 200hp is just outdated these days.

Every single day. Sometimes twice.

With that said, the wheels of the BRZ/FRS are inset way too far. It's just begging for a larger rim/tire combo to fill out the wheel well. I also think they look good now partly because it's new, but how's it going to look in 5 years? 10 years?

If you want to compare modern cars you really should be looking at stuff in the $60-85k price range for inflation adjusted reality.

Not at the cheap stuff.

Remember this is a PORSHCE! While they ended up being the less popular version over time and depreciated a lot. They started out with proper Porsche pricing for the day.

For a direct comparison the modern 944 in Porsches eyes is the Cayman. It fits in the model line up where the 944 used to.

I just spec-ed one out and it came to about $73k (modern 944) and a Cayman S $84k (Modern 951 as far as the market segment)

Now, if you want to talk modern front engine, rear drive, German sports 4 seater then the BMW 128i(non turbo) and 135is(turbo) are probably the closet modern equal. They have a 3.0l motor. So the same displacement as late 944/968s in a small sports coupe rear drive platform.

Though technically on the cheap side when compared in real inflation adjusted dollars.
