I have a theory on my car that my trans is not bad. Here are the issues, The Left side differential is bad. Can i fix the differential myself with out redoing the whole trans? When i put the car into reverse it will pop out of gear almost every time, would that need just an adjustment? All 1-5 gears work perfectly for my car. I want to believe my trans is good. im not sure if the 944 86 turbo has a reverse synchro gear in it. It is a LSD trans with the cooler on it. I need help thank you Everyone who reads and can help me out! Not looking to redo the trans if i dont have too.

There is only one differential, not a left or right. The diff has nothing to do w/ gear selection. Reverse does not have a synchro.

Will it stay in reverse gear if you hold the shifter, or does it very forcefully pop out of reverse, even if you hold the shifter? Does it shift into reverse normally, or is it difficult to select reverse?

The Driver side is bad, the carrier Bearing is bad. It is difficult to find reverse, pops out once in it, and when i did try to hold it popped out and grind.

Replacing the carrier bearings is a lot of work to properly set the preload and lash. Reverse slider assembly must be damaged or the gear teeth themselves are damaged, hopefully not the teeth on the input shaft.

Maybe time for a rebuild that doesnt look like anything i want to get into.
