Default Rebuilding 944 engine video

Started rebuilding the engine for the ChumpCar today. This is a totally stock 944 engine that's a menagerie of parts, but with fresh bearings, rings and seals. Actually, it is getting a Paragon crank scraper, too.

Here's a description of the parts going in:

All we did today is the bottom end - here's a time lapse of our progress:

the poor Corgi didn't get a very restful day.

Also, Most used tool in an engine rebuild: Torque Wrench.
2nd most used tool: Workshop manual.

Love these vids. Great work. They're kind of opposite, in that the one is a completely patient explanation and the second is a torrent of action.

I've been looking through Chump Car rules and I thought that for cars valued over $500 (such as the Porsche) the internals were mandated to be stock. Is this so and if not how is the scraper justified?

Valid point. In my opinion, the crank scraper isn't a performance item, but rather an insurance item to give the poor #2 rod bearing a fighting chance to last in an endurance race.

At the end of the day, it's my goal to have a car that maximizes the time on track for my drivers. If we get penalized with ten thousand laps, but the car makes it through the event and everyone has fun, then the mission will be accomplished.

So Van, is that the recommended method? Crank girdle on, read workshop manual, remove crank girdle, crank girdle back on

Yeah, you know... measure once, cut twice.

We forgot to put sealant on the back of the girdle, where the oil drains back into the block by the rear main seal. Since the oil pan goes on top of the girdle at this spot, I figured it was worth it to take it off and do it right.

Kevin, I got it from Paragon: http://www.paragon-products.com/Cran...nk-scraper.htm

But it's pretty simple... I made a tracing, if you want.
