Post 924S/944 Flex Disc (Driveplate)

Does anyone know of analternative (i.e. cheaper!) part for the flex disc (driveplate to us Europeans). Porsche part number is 944-421-110-00, I was hoping to find a VW/Audi part or something similar. My box is the 3-speed Audi auto.

Thanks in Advance!

Sorry, you lost me there! Please explain (I'm in Ireland, so it's hard to hear you clearly over here!)

Dennis doesn't have a 5-speed transaxle (transmission and differential in one). He has a 3-speed automatic transaxle. Only the auto cars have flex plates.

I think the suggestion was a reference to installing a 5 speed transaxle instead of a flexplate <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

It sounds funny here...

Yeah, it was a joke. I'd have thought Tabor would've gotten it, though.

Who was it that actually had the sex change 944? daly?

Yea, I missed it. I thought Devildog2067 was just REALLY confused.

Yea, someone around here has done the Auto to Manual swap.

Cool

OK, easy guys! After I seem to have re-started the civil war, I was just looking for a cheaper replacement for the flex disc (part number 944-421-110-00)for my 3-speed Audi transmission. The flex disc is going to cost me at least US$700 unless there's a VW part number somewhere for one of these.

To do the job, I have to drop the transmission/diff/torque converter-and-the-torque-tube-and-the-bell-housing-and-the-flywheel (that's a lot of work outside in the winter here-the future garage is still full of horses!). SO, what would it take to swap it out? I'd guess a 2nd hand gearbox/diff from a good breaker, rebuild it while it's out and install a new clutch. Same breaker should be able to supply the shift etc, but what about the pedal assembly? From the pictures in the Haynes, the bell housing is universal and has all the right holes in all the right places (can anyone get me on a sexual harrassment charge for saying that?).

Opinions on a postcard, let me know who wins the war!
