Post what is IT called

Since I don`t speak english as my native language I don`t know what you call the thing where the wheel bearings and brake disc are/is attached to and where the wheel bolts are in (wheel pole?)...so what is the correct word ? I will propably need to replace one of mine since it has some damage where the wheel bearings are and I`m trying to find a used one from U.K.(and I don`t want to receive something I didn`t ask for)

Also called a front hub or steering knuckle.

If you list the car year and model I can provide an actual part#... also, the part number is cast into the unit you have. Sometimes best just to use those, so you DO get the right part.

Good Luck!

Hello Skip
I asked from a couple of places in the UK and they didn`t know what a spindle was. One place offered a front stub axle though...I wonder if it is the same thing. Just out of curiosity, how much would a spindle cost in the US (used and new)? I would gladly order it from there but there is this little thing called the customs which outside EU is around 37%...unless someone could send it without company tags and prices on the delivery :-).
My car is a 4/1986 951.

Lauri,

Try euro car parts. Theyre in the UK, so no VAT or stuff!!!!

What is the part you're after?? is it the shaft (axle, spindle or stub axle), the main cast part (knuckle joint) or the part that the disc mounts to (hub)???????

Hope that helps.

Hi Porker
The part I`m after is round, made of aluminum, has the wheel bolts attached to (5 of them), has wheel bearings inside of it so it is the part where the wheel is attached to. The problem occured when I had my wheel bearings changed...there seemed to be some damage inside the "thing" where the wheel bearing is. By the way, do you know any part suppliers in Germany for example, the prices in UK are not always that cheap compared to prices in the US

Ooooh... that's the "front wheel hub"! I was mislead on your initial post, sorry 'bout that. This is the part that rides on the spindle or steering knuckle.

Part# is 951.341.065.00 (left or right, makes no difference)

- you'll also want the 2 bearing and a new radial seal... they should have those part #'s easily.

Just out of curiosity, why doesn't whomever damaged the hub replace it?

Good Luck! No ideas on German/UK/Finland suppliers

Thanks a lot Skip, with the number I can`t go wrong. I had strange vibration from 35 to 80 mph which got steadily worse during the last 5000 miles plus thumbing (is this a right word?) on fast corners. Balancing the front tires didn`t help. There was also some free play in the bearings so I got them changed. All the symptoms are gone but the guy who changed them said that the hub has been damaged previously and he can`t guarantee these new bearings will work for a long time so I figured it is better to change the whole thing. Who is responsible of the damage I guess I`ll never know. The car to my knowledge on the other hand has not been wrecked...maybe I got screwed but I guess this is an issue of reasonable doubt to workshops benefit :-) (not the first time I have this same feeling). I myself have negleted to tighten the bearing and drove it about 10000 miles with some free play so I could be the quilty one very easily.

Lauri,

Try contacting Olli Snellman. Aswell as being a Finn, he has good contacts for sourcing parts from Europe. He'll be glad to help......

Hej Pikey
Yes I know Olli but I haven´t talked with him yet because the bearings work fine at the moment. If they fail I may have to consult him...thanks anyway.

Lauri,
You might also check out www.ebay.com
I know I saw a wheel hub for sale at auction on the ebay website. Just do a search with "Porsche 944" typed in the search box. It will return something like 15 pages of parts etc...I can't remember if the hub was for a Turbo or not but I do know it was not an ABS hub so it might work for you. Good luck.

Regards,
Max
