Luke, I have a turbo quattro 5000 CS. A lot of fun in the winter, and it is a tank, but what a sleeper these cars are. I have a friend with 325hp quattro blowing unsuspecting mustangs and vettes off the road. All wheel drive hook up is great, but your right not as much fun to drive.

951 with quattro huh?
Well look no further than the Audi Coupe Quattro. These cars were very similar to the 951, boxed fenders, k26 Turbo charged engine, 5 speed tranny, but with awd thrown in the mix. They are fairly rare, but some day I will have one in my garage as a daily driver. I love the audi 5 cyl turbo engine, maybe slightly smaller in cubic inches to our 951 but audi developed these engines very well, there was even a rally version with 1000 hp (never used because the car was out of control and groupe b rally cars were scapped, but they did have it). This is one of my favoire cars in the world right up there with the Ford Escort Cosworth RS.

As for the 5 cylinder engine.......it is an excellent engine with TONS of potential. My 1993 Audi S4 has 176,000 miles on the clock, and can still run down a lot of stuff. It has a chip and K&N filter for engine mods, and is quite fast. I'd estimate the HP in the 250 range. There is supposed to be a chip that gets the power up to 300 without changing anything, and running the boost up to 18 or so psig. The quattros, and specifically, the S cars are just great cars. If mine gets wrecked, I'll gladly buy another.

I once (early '80's) had the pleasure of watching John Buffum run one of the short Quattro rally cars up Chimney Rock back when the SCCA still had a spring hillclimb there. He used all of the lane and a half of pavement, and all of the shoulders, and some of the ditches...
