I think Most 944's have this problem.....
9xAuto claim to be able to solve this with new refelectors, BTW I've not tried it.
Check the archives on the main 944 board. I think quite a few guys have solved it with brighter bulbs, but Don't quote me on it!

As Iceshark/Dan mentioned chrome spary is good stuff here.I used it to restore my '88 Turbos dash lights.I use now original wattage bulbs and iam satified with the results.I used to have in my previous 944 higher wattage bulbs and i can tell that plastic will melt quite easily !!!

I followed the procedure 100% & the difference ia amazing!!!
I used Paint thinner to take off the old coating & double sided tape with Ali Foil.
As has been suggested by other posters, resist the temptation to add higher power bulbs - you'll just melt the bulb holders.
