You may be right about getting the shaft lined up for installation... I've recently removed 3 from various parts cars - but it's been a while since I put a new one in. You can certainly remove it without going under the dash.

I saw a thread where someone accessed the shaft clip by lifting the fuse panel from it's tray. I did that once to get to a positive wire and it is a creepy feeling pulling up on that panel with all of those wires packed down underneath the fuses/relays. Also, there is a guy on youtube who shows the whole process but he speaks in Dutch? He does have English captions though if you click on the closed caption symbol.

I'll be doing this next week. Since I don't have a speed bleeder, are there recommendations for one?
