Agreed, but sometimes you want to wait until you are ready to do an engine rebuild before being forced to deal with gasket after gasket.....

Okay, I said I would follow up my last post (below) with an "after" picture when I got the valve cover back off. Sorry its not the same exact angle. I haven't removed the upper timing cover to get that angle. But you can see what running the SeaFoam did to the crust in this motor.

I just recently picked up a 2002 Eurovan that was diagnosed with a bad timing chain tensioner. When I took it apart this is what the motor looked like.

I put a new chain and tensioners on the van and it did not cure the issue.(wouldn't idle and timing all over the place) So while looking for a solution I ran the car (had to keep foot on the throttle to keep it at idle speed) for about 20 minutes with SeaFoam in it.

I ended up having to take the valve cover back off and finally found the issue (small metal screen stuck in the cam adjuster)

BUT........and I'm sorry I don't have a picture of this........ALL of the carbon crap build up was gone

Van runs great but I think I got one of the cam adjusters indexed slightly off as I get a check engine light for cam adjustment limit right now. Later this spring I plan it tear it apart again and fix that. I will take another picture and update this thread then.

How long did you run SeaFoam in the oil? Only 20 minutes total?!

Ok so I drank the Kool-aid and purchased some of this stuff. For what it is worth.....

when I first start up in the morning it did take a second or two for oil pressure to come up. Added the sea foam, after one good 1 hour run the oil pressure now comes right up in the morning. Was it the sea foam or aliens? Decide for yourself.....

I wish it could fix the HLA noise on the miata, but apparently that is a design flaw in the lifters.

I have great luck with seafoam. I used it on my jeep and it seemed to make a difference.
