Speaking as someone who has heard a loose timing belt, check it before running it any further. After it is confirmed, follow the advice for lifters and exhaust leaks.

Checked the belt and it can twist ~45* (give or take) but it didnt seem loose. The oil level was between 2/3 to slightly below full. How shall I proceed from here?

Why can't your mechanic diagnose it? If it's a lifter, then filling the oil and driving it home may be exactly what it needs to quiet them down. If something is knocking in the crankcase as your mechanic suggests, then the bottom end needs to be opened anyway, so driving home won't change that (although I suppose could turn a salvageable bottom end into scrap). Can you go and take your own longer video of it running with good audio and post it here? Pull a cam tower access plug while you're at it and see it the noise is coming from in there.

I have too much into this "project". Also I'm not sure of how this problem would arise in the crank case, my mechanic was the last person to lay eyes on the bottom end. (He did the gasket on the oil pan before the donor motor was put in.) I'll go down and get a longer clip of the bay tomorrow after class.

with the oil capacity at 5 qts, ( drain one off, if its already in ) , unscrew the cam tower covers and squeeze a quart of Lucas Oil Treatment into each and every hole. You will have now one full quart of this viscosity indexer / treatment up in the cam tower, re-install the caps, crank her up and bring up the idle. I am going to guess within about 10 minutes this lifter noise will be gone, if not, drive it around about a 10 mile jaunt.

If this does not do it, you are going to need to remove the lifters and carefully with a dowel stick push back on the little plunger on them to re set it back in place. OR , set them in a concoction of oil and Lucas and leave over nite. Worst case scenario is you will find several lifters to be missing their ability to hold pressure and they will need replacement.

The other thing is to make sure you have the correct oil viscosity for the type of driving you will be doing...... summer use oils are 15-50 or 20-50 and winter use is 10-30. Any lighter than this except in extremely cold subzero temps is not what you wish to be using unless its a synthetic Mobil 1 , 0-40

When I started my engine for the first time in 7 yrs., it took a full 15 minutes' running to quiet the last lifter down. I'm not hearing anything different. If it were lower end, when you rev'd it you'd hear an immediate increase in severity, and it would be a much more solid banging noise.

If it were mine, I'd let it idle for a minute or two (if cold), then hold it at 3-4K RPMs for a few minutes. If they are still clacking, repeat a few times. I'll bet they'll be quieting down after a few tries.

The ZDDP is good for the engine, but it probably won't make much difference on quieting the lifters.

well im getting a bad squeal (not sure why) or id go out and try that... Its sounding like its coming from around the WP. Hoping its the Balance shaft belt hitting the idle pulley tho. Then I'll report back.

Be sure to check the oprv before driving it around, i did an engine swap on a 944 and it turned out that a little piece of rubber was stuck in the oprv causing it to not allow any oil up into the cam tower.

Its the oil pressure relief valve the big bolt in the oil cooler behind the power steering pretty easy to get it out and then just make sure the end is not stuck open.

Fixed a belt squeal (idle pulley) and was working on locating the sound when my neighbor across the way came over cuz he thought his buddy with a Harley was in his driveway and found out it was my 944. He has owned over 130 cars in his day so when he suggests something i listen. He thought it was knocking (Rod) yet when we pulled the wires nothing fixed the sound. I still need to check OPRV yet since i drove the donor car home with no issues and it hasnt been touched, im not thinking that is the issue. I need to replace my exhaust (straight pipe to magnaflow cuz i threw on the parts car's) before I will take it around the block. The car has been driven over 7mi with this issue and its not changing. What gives?

Im kinda at the end of my rope with this car.
