Question How much money has this forum saved you?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if you have ever calculated how much money this forum has saved you. I for instance was able to get a deal and a half for already assembled suspension components and saved (deducting from worst senario, ie factory parts and sevice) about 1000 canadian dollars (parts + labor)*

*thanks D. Salama

I got a steering rack (thanks emilysgranny) for $125 rather than a rebuilt for $600.

Other than that, it's been a couple bucks here and there... but that adds up. And it's mostly because I haven't had any major problems.

Money, probably not much. Sanity on the other hand, a whole lot!

The board has helped me a lot with the little things: how do I get my axle nut off, how so I get my torque tube back far enough to remove my bell housing, that heater clip!

Lessee... at least the time I spend here is time I'm not spending money on other forms of entertainment, so there's quite a chunk of $$$ there.

OTOH, if I didn't have this source of info, I probably wouldn't have upgaded my sway bars (-$500), and I wouldn't be contemplating an upgrade to 17" wheels & bigger brakes (-$3K or so).

But then, I might not have taken such quick notice of the whine of a loose balance shaft belt (PO never got it retensioned; never assume anything about PO...), so I might have been out by the cost of the upper end of the engine.... so maybe the savings from that will pay for the brake upgrade.

All depends on your perspective....

I'll broaden this to the internet...
It would have saved me $500, if I had done the belts myself, but I decided to let the "pro's" take care of that. Looking back, I would have rented the tensioning tool and done it myself.

Without rennlist I wouldn't have bought a short shift to clure my sloppy linkage...

It's all the little things...like directions to do so many things, clock bulb, sunroof gears, etc...

All the help ive been getting with my vac leak...being able to ask whether or not "this" or "that" is normal...its the total package that makes it awesome really.

I have been reading the board since May of 2001 when i bought my car. It has helped a lot and i have done a lot of upgrades my self and I enjoy reading the board everyday. has it saved me money? yes, but unfortunatly not enough. I was speaking with my auto mechanic over the phone and he is telling me what is going on with my car. not good news I paid 4,600 for the car ( it is an 86na) and i spun the no. 2 rod bearing, as well as a lot of other things. If he fixes everything to the point where he can garuantee his work the total will be 1,800 dollars in parts and the same in Labor! This is a sad day indeed.
Judd-wishing I bought a 9,000 dollar 951 instead.

Incalcuable. When I found my 944 it had been stored in a mountain garage for 6 years by a family member, no receipts and 59,000 miles. I was going to buy a battery, squirt a little oil in the cylinders and start her up. I found this board and everyone screamed, "NO, don't do that". They advised me to get it to a shop and have the belts and waterpump changed. I had it towed, spent $1800 on these and a LOT of other catch-up maintenance items -fluids, etc. A lot of money but the car has another 11,000 miles on it and runs like a champ - seems to be getting faster! I've not had a single problem with it. How to figure what MIGHT have happened.

Oh how about this:

As many of you know, I am in the proccess of installing a 968 engine in my 944. If it was not for this list, I would not have known it was possible and would have probably gone for the Rennegade Hydbrids V-8 kit.

So, depending on you point of view, this board saved my Porsche. I am not the purist that some people are, but I would still rather have a Porsche engine than something else.

Christ... just the shoulder to cry on is worth it!

Add in the tips and tricks, certain downloads, creative ideas, great stories... I don't think you could put a price on it.

For someone who would usually take the car to the dealer for repairs, I could see this board saving thousands. Pretty much any problem can be diagnosed, the tips and info on how to fix it, and then the satisfaction from posting to the board that you did it yourself.

Starts to sound like a VISA "Priceless" commercial.

I've saved thousands by having the confidence to do my own work on my rebuild. Knowing that Rennlist is there gives me that confidence. Not only that but I found a sucker to spend big Canadian bucks on my junky used Konis and Welts. HaHaHa Lemon Yellow.

Cool

Rennlist in a very real sense has enabled me to have this car. Without the help (through reading of other's problems and solutions) of all of you, I would not have had the confidence or knowlege that has accompanied me through a variety of seemingly difficult tasks and maintenance proceedures. WeeeDoggie! This shure ain't a 3 Litre Healey!!!

My old beater 87 944S was a fantastic bargin at $4500. I'm thankful for each of you each time I turn the key and the darn thing starts. That old timey sporty car feeling of comraderie cannot be equated by dollar amounts.

I gotta go with Jim968 on this one, this forum has shown me new ways to spend money. At least it's money well spent.

Dave, If I agree with Jim, do I need to be witty too?
