Lessee... last time I had that feeling, I decided to change the tranny oil... before I could order it, one of the sunvisor hooks broke... by the time the oil & hook arrived, the 'power retract' on the headlights quit working. Ran the battery a bit low while troubleshooting that, so on the next (low-voltage) start-up, the airbag controller set a code & kept the warning light on. Bought & installed a new battery. Went to the dealer to get the code checked & cleared, but their only Porsche tech was out of town at a training seminar for the whole week... Wasted a couple of hours verifying that the headlight problem was in the plug-in controller unit (assuming it was a $200+ part; 18 pins, four relays, & an SMT PCB). Finally ordered it, ...$46.00... "La, D'UH!"
Caught the dealership tech yesterday & got the airbag code cleared, for free!

Jim, will finish the wax job tonight... what else will break?

Do what I just did, work on the interior. I'm used to spending a couple bills a month and its been a couple of months, so I just ordered a new rear deck carpet replacement for my original, which incidentally lost a cat fight with vacuum cleaner - damn thing sucked all of the fibers out of it <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />

Also, ordered a new fog lite bulb, air filter, new oil drain plug (mine was starting to get a little rounded), and 15 feet of vacuum hose - hey might as well replace that, I've done about everything else on top of the motor <img src="graemlins/a_smil17.gif" border="0" alt="[blabla]" />

That's too funny. I can relate to that. I've almost worked my way through the "to-do" list for my car, and I'm starting to feel a bit "uneasy" myself. For some reason, it's sort of comforting to have a couple items on your car that need attending to. I guess it allows us car fanatics to fixate on a problem, correct it, and then get a sense of satisfaction that we've made an improvement. When there's nothing to do but drive it, it's just not the same!! There's some logic in there somewhere, I'm sure of it!!

Good thing it'll be a while before I fix all the little things that bother me.

When the car has no squeaks or rattles (including the hatch!) I'll be close to being satisfied.
It's really not bad at all, only on rough roads does the car make any noise...but it bothers me.

Seriously, email me your number, we'll get together, starting April 8th,,that is the day we start taking the engine out. I have two big storage bins of parts, and I'll be staying at the Sheraton just down the street.

I just got my car back from the shop. New wheel Bearings, bushings, alignment, etc. It's perfect now, So I thought... But now that the wheel bearing stoped rumbling, I can hear a whine, A whine coming from the rear of the car similar to(gulp) the sound of a jet engine. Then I hear another whine, It's me crying like a baby. I'm crying because I have a 968 tranny. YES, I know! Please don't say anything if you know what I'm fearing it to probably be. Let me live in denial for a while unless you know of some other cause for this di$tinct $ound. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />

Roberto,

Where did you get the 968 tranny from? I'm looking into one for the distant future, but it will cost a fortune, unless I can find a good donor, b/c there's no way I could stand that gearing- so, by the time I find one and add a Quaiffe, or just a factory one w/a Torsen, and then change the top 4 or 5 gears, then it would add up... Does your's have a Torsen, ZF, or open?

Got mine at a junk yard, and It's an open. The Gearing is actually quite nice. Not that I've driven anything other than an 88 n/a tranny to compare it to. 6th isn't as tall as a 951's 5th, but who needs anything over 160mph on the street anyway I don't want to say it, I'll probably curse myself, but if you are seriously thinking about a 968 tranny, you should read about their pinnion problems.

Bob, it can't happen to me... that only happens to other people, not me... I'm immune
