Yes, you are correct! It fits nicely around the lock cylinder.

Keep in mind, some of the older sun-baked grommets simply crumble.

I replaced mine a few months ago, and it helped to loosen some of the screws from inside the trunk. IIRC there were a couple that just have it a little more play. Once you look at it, you'll immediately figure it out.

Yes, but, depending on how old your grommet is, it probably won't come out in one piece.

Little, if any, lube is required to get the new grommet back in. It's a snug, not tight, fit.
