Post O-Ringed Heads - question

Whilst I have the head off my motor I am thinking about having it O-ringed. From what I read there are a few options to consider regarding choice of gasket (std, widefire, copper) and actual position of the O-ring. I am not interested in copper gaskets but I would like to know how the o-ring is set up relative to the fire ring (gasket metal ring). Does the O-ring press down on the fire ring ? Or is the oring a larger diameter ring which presses into the fibre material of the gasket ?

What combination of gaskets & Orings are people using and are they having good results ?

Wayne
