New Silver Rose Owner
Hi, all,
I've been posting a bit very recently and I wanted to officially introduce myself.
I'm a new, and first time, 944 owner. I used to be a BMW guy - maybe will be again, who knows?
Wanted to try a new ownership route. Get something as original as possible and keep it clean and tidy. Enjoy it as it was meant to be. I found a 1988 Silver Rose with 68K miles (one owner car). Super clean. Runs like a top.
I just flew down to Atlanta to pick it up and trekked back via the Blue Ridge Parkway. No one was on the road - didn't see a cop until I got to NJ.
It was the best drive of my life, so far. I haven't personally ever experienced a car so capable and stable. So extremely competent in the curves, even though the roads were wet. And like the speed of thought, able to pass and punch through the triple digit speed barrier.
Weirdly, everywhere I stopped, people came up to me to talk about the car. One dude who was night watchman at the hotel I stayed at even wrote a note about it on the bill they stick under the door before checkout. See pics below, hopefully they show up...
edit -
Ok, they didn't show up. See a few posts below for pics.

Flickr can go to heck. I paid for a "pro" account but they don't like me to post links for some reason.
Anyway, photobucket seems to work!
Thanks for the welcome!

Congratulations! You definitely went for a nice example. I remember seeing that car on eBay and all the glorious pictures. IMO, Silver Rose is 'the' Turbo to have, but they're not too easy to find. I have an 88 regular Turbo which I love. Can only imagine with the S upgrades.

Congrats on your new toy. They are a great package stock, I like hearing all that praise from a BMW guy. Keeping that fabric pretty may be your biggest problem. Maybe pull it out and swap in some leather to preserve the unique cloth. In the older days, you could get red plaid interiors from guys making race cars but that seems to be drying up. Chips and wastegate shims are a great start down a slippery dead end road. ::

Thanks, gents! I highly recommend taking a drive on the Blue Ridge. Give yourself some time, get some local BBQ and don't forget to pick up some moonshine.
It looks like there are a couple of things to be aware of when considering keeping it stock: the fabric and the tires. Seems like there's only one tire manufacturer out there right now making the stock size and there's one german source for the fabric (thanks Rennlisters who researched that originally). Maybe I will get some of that fabric just in case.
Van, say it ain't so! Ow.
Ernie, no sticker on mine. There's one on sale in Long Island that has the sticker but has some mismatched interior parts.

It's really well deserved. I think this is the feel I was going for with the bimmer, but obviously could never come near to replicating, thanks to the insufficient chasis.
Anyway, this is my first turbo car, so I'm going to be on a learning curve as things progress. I'm definitely not intimidated by the Porsche medallion on the hood so I hope to do a good amount of the work myself.
Cheers!

I have the original chips in a bag of docs the PO handed down, though.
The question is, since I like this setup, shouldn't I stay with it for a while?
