Post everything seems to be falling into place

Well my turbo is here. Sure looks nice. I got the SFR stage one with a 54mm comp. wheel, stage 3 turbine and #6 hot side.
I am gathering all of my aluminum bits and peices to take to the local anodiser. I can have everything I own done for just $50. What do you guys think about anodising the compressor housing?

It sure would be nice to wake up one morning to find out that somebody replaced my oil pan gasket for me.

Would you even be able to SEE the turbo once it's installed anyway? Plus you gotta disassemble it to anodize the housing. So you need to have it re-balanced afterwards. I wouldn't bother.

Although an anodized intake-manifold and cam-cover would look really cool. What color?

The comp. housing is held on lightly by 6 hex bolts and 3 semi circular clamps, similar to cv joints. The housing as to be on loose to be able to "clock" the turbo. I'm sure that clocking a turbo wouldn't require re-balancing!!! why should removing this "loosely" attached part require the same???

btw this turbo sure is a piece of art. [quote]Originally posted by Danno:

I think I'll go with a "dark grey-ish" metallic theme.

HEY!! how about "Lemon yellow", nah......that'd be TOO bold.

Take a look in the classifieds at the engine Jeff Lamb has for sale, lots of yellow, might give you a few ideas.

Luke's right, you can safely remove the housing without needing to rebalance, only if you disassemble the center section, will balancing be necessary.

Danno's right also, though, I went crazy polishing everything associated with the turbo, even my compressor housing, and you almost need a mirror to see it....

I like the really intense purple/violet that you can get with anodizing!

Purple is too Koeklin-ish.

What I am really trying to do is to have a nice looking engine bay for the local car shows. I live near Detroit and there are weekly muscle car/and what not shows in town (Mt. Clemens) Their is an avg. of 350 cars each night. THey are fun and I'd like to be able to back into a spot. I think Purple/yellow would be rice and offensive to the general public. I think I'll stick with a nice clean silver-ish appearance.

Thumbs up

s-car-go racing does a good job of yellow and purple. they are at http://www.scargoracing.com, unfortunately they need to re-do their site - all those pics are old. they may have been featured in excellence mag too, although don't know where. the dude who did that yellow car is nuts for detail. 600hp isn't bad either.
