Default Tapping/ticking noise

Iv finally got everything ready for MOT took my 84 944 for a quick drive to notice there was this ticking/tapping noise coming from engine it was dark so couldn't see much. The noise ticks with the revs of engine and gets louder with more rpm if looked on other threads some say exaust manifold others scare me. What shall I do first.

Double check your fluids. If its coming from the engine as you said it could be something very easy like a lifter sticking- I had a problem that sounds like what you described and some seafoam followed by an oil change cured it. I'd start there for narrowing it down but I could be way off

Did you recently do the timing belt?

Sorry, I didn't even think about where you are located. Seafoam is a gasoline/oil additive that cleans deposits from the engine and lubricates the upper cylinders. I can find it at any auto parts store around here, although I don't know its availability outside of the US- I would assume that any engine treatment that lubricates and removes deposits would do the same as Seafoam though

I was going to suggest wrong torque on the crank pulley or having the crank pulley reversed. Glad it was just a sticky lifter!

I have the same problem; I read several threads saying to pour 1/3 in the crankcase 1/3 in the brake booster vacuum line and 1/3 in the fuel tank. I know where the brake booster vacuum line is.. but can anyone point out where to pour the Seafoam in the crankcase (like in a picture)?

Add it to your oil- I'd do that only at first since that tends to be all it takes. Take it for a nice long drive to let it work through and then change your oil.

Alright so just to be 100% sure, we're talking about the bright yellow cap in the center next to the brake booster right?

Exactly. Oil fill cap toward the back, drivers side of the engine.
