Rear Bumper Options
#17
I have the Fiberwerks rear bumper on mine. I used stainless screws to attach it to the body. I added a steel bar inside, then filled it with expanding foam, but it doesn't have shocks due to the way the mounts are designed. I then glassed it to the body so there are no seams. I also have the Fiberwerks front bumper done the same way. There rear actually fits pretty well. The fit on the front is terrible to say the least and takes a lot of work, and the front side lights need to be modified. I didn't like the way they fit even after modification, so removed all the sidelights and filled them in.

I agree about keeping the 80's look, but IMHO the US bumpers are ugly, especially the front one. Shaving the pair of bumper pads is an improvement, but the European front and rear bumpers really are the best looking.

imo the Euro bumpers are pure 80's Porsche, the way the factory wanted the car to look. The US bumpers are the way the the US federal bureaucrats wanted the car to look.
I'm old enough to remember what the Feds did to the beautiful bumpers on the MG's, Jaguars and Alfa Spiders...ugly!

I used the fire proof insulating expanding foam like you can get a Lowe's or Home Depot. You have to put it on in layers so it doesn't sag down. Then you can trim it up with a sander or rasp and paint it.

The UK spec bumper is the way to go, in my opinion. I ordered mine(with the mounts) off Ebay UK. Cost $150 shipped. For another $200 the rub strip was deleted, holes filled, painted, and mounted by the body shop. It's a sleek look.. cleans up the rear end quite a bit.

Click Here for my euro bumper thread, it includes part numbers, etc. for the mounting brackets.
As has been mentioned, the turbo bumper has a hole in the rub strip to accommodate a tow eye, which threads into a special (and expensive) mount. If you don't want to mess with the tow eye you can use two of the other mounts, with either the NA or turbo bumper, which is what I did until I came across a used tow eye mount for cheap.

First off, I never said I didn't like the euro rear bumper, I just said I like the US one... And, while that may still be true, I suddenly like the euro one waaay better. Damnit. More stuff to spend money on...

I'm running a Euro Bumper without the strip. Looks MUCH better than the blocky US bumper.
You should still be able to order them from any US dealer as well. Though, the Euro Mounts are a bit spendy for what they are. The fitment and look is much better than any of the fiberglass replicas.
