the strange hing is that LY7U is also the paint color of my early build 85. Porsche must have changed the name from Stone Grey Metallic to Slate Grey Metallic by 1987, but maintained an identical color.

I took a pic of mine and here it is. What other info does this show, or is there a place I can find to decipher it? Thanks, Mike.

Stone Grey Metallic and Slate Grey Metallic are different paint colors and different paint codes. Slate Grey Metallic is slightly darker if I recall correctly and was a more recent color.

Chances are you have a Stone Grey Metallic car, paint code LY7U. That was available in 1987 and a common color, especially with 944 Turbos. (My 944T is Stone Grey metallic.)

LM5U is Diamond Blue Metallic, same as my car and only offered in '87 on the 944s.

God bot, does your color look like my pic? I don't see any blue in my paint, but I could be wrong. I did find an online color chart and you're right about color.

Top pic is your car, bottom is a diamond blue metallic LM5U.I'll say both are darn close to being the same color.

Oh! forgot my buddy has a low mileage Japan import 928S4 which is also diamond blue metallic. It's a 1990. Maybe you can see more of the blue hue in it being a lot younger car than yours with less paint fade.
