Dear all,

I have a 997, formerly owned an 89 944 S2. My son wants a 944. Having a look about I found an excellent red/black example for $10,500. Here is the ad:

"I am selling my 1985.5 Porsche 944. I have put a lot of time and money into this car. The engine and transmission were recently rebuilt by Lindsey Racing. All new suspension with Koni Shocks. A/C is cold. Seats recently re-upholstered. Windows are tinted dark. New Fuchs rims. Interior is in terrific shape. New Clutch Master Cylinder, recently rebuilt steering rack. Paint is great. Too numerous to name them all. I have receipts for all work that has been done, over $25K recently put into this beauty. Garage kept."

I realize this is very high pricing but it seems the car has been restored to a high standard. I know the 944 pretty well and would like to start him out with a good example. Thoughts. (Yes I have considered a Honda civic Si but I have psychological problems from the car my dad bought me...pewter civic sedan automatic....and I was a car guy.)

$10500 that equates to £6500 english pounds. there are a few around that price here in the uk and by the sounds of things not as good as this one. worth a look i guess.
first car for your son ?? 200bhp for a novice ??

It's an 85... 150 hp. I'm a racer and do some driving instruction...he's far more responsible than me anyway. He's finished drivers Ed/permit. Next stop is track instruction.

The rebuilds are certainly nice, but is the car going to stay that nice? Thats S2 price territory.. If you could get it cheaper it could be worth it.

Still, like i said, you could get another s2 for that kind of money.

Agreed you can buy a very nice turbo or super nice s2 for that money. Does look nice though.

The Grinch is soured on a pristine 944 for you son.

If you son is between 17 and 21, never buy the car. His brain is connected to the cell and distractions of young girls posting mirror shots of their butt will cause significant damage to the beautiful 944.

Seriously, give the keys to your son with his promise not to goose it at a light?

But buy the car and have your son pay for a separate insurance policy--not on yours.

I would have promised priesthood at that age for this car.

If it were an S2 or Turbo - that could be a reasonable price based on the maintenance, but with the amount of 3-4k 944's out there, I don't see any 2.5 N/A being worth more than ~8k in pristine condition.

You can get into a 90-110k mile 968 with up-to-date maintenance for ~$10-11k if you watch for a couple months for the right one.

I have put well past that into my N/A...they are $10k cars..one way or another (to be a very reliable DD). This would alleviate many headaches...and $10, 000 isn't very much for a car.

I wish I would have just bought one this nice in the beginning...but I did learn a ton which parlayed into buying a well sorted 951. My 944 has been bullet-proof...

You could probably find one in fantastic shape for around $7k...but the engine wouldnt have been rebuilt by Lindsey. This car will last 20 years..

I don't think all 19 of the 944 N/A's I've purchased combined would have cost as much as that.

Then again, if you took all 19 of those 944's and combined them into one really nice one, I don't think it would be as nice as that one.

its got a lot of work on it, did lindsay do a stock rebuild on it? seems like they would make it a lil hottier if they were doing the rebuild

You guys act like a N/A 944 is WAY too much HP too handle or has oversteer like a 911. Hell its a pretty forgiving, not esp fast sports car. My 914 was probably less forgiving than that 944 and I bought it when I was 18

yeah its the cost of an S2, or a pretty nice 951

But idk if I give a kid that nice of a car, not that he will f it up. I washed my cars every weekend, love them took great care of them, but I went to college it didn't matter.... drunk kids meant that my car got hit, someone body slammed the hood, soda, shakes, everything thrown on it... after 6 months in college I said f it and slapped the rally tires on that bad boy (my NG900 Saab)

So thats just one perspective, maybe he's not gonna bring it too college with him, but it will more than likely be destroyed there

No matter what you put into the car they are not 10k dollar cars. $6500 is what that cars range is

a nice turbo car is a 10k dollar car
