Default Front 944 Bumper Mod on the Cheap.

I wanted a cleaner look and a tow hook for the B&B rental cars. 1st, I removed the bumper pads, the removed the big rivets, that holds the bumper bracket on then had holes welded closed & had the brackets welded to the bumper since the big pop rivets were removed. I also drilled new holes for the tow loop, $8 at Lowes, and had a peace of steel cut & drilled for a backing plate. I had PowderTech-Plus

sand blast & powder coat the bumper, I could have had them use some filler powder(like using bondo) for a smoother look over where the holes were filled, but this is a track car, so I didn't bother with the extra time & expense, plus, it was an experiment, so again, just wanted to see how the "idea" would come out, and since I have a few extra bumpers, I may do the other 2 cars..

Nice! How much did the powder coat work cost?

I like those air ducts in place of the fog lights too.

Very similiar to how I did mine but without a tow hook. I really should add one to mine. Good work, I like the shaved bumper look on the 944. Keep thinking about adding some euro style driving lights inboard the truns to give it a euro bumper look.

The powder coating cost $50, as you can see in the "pre" pix, there was some corrosion, they media blasted & coated it. The drivers side duct goes into the air box, and the passenger side goes into another oil cooler..

When I posted the tow hood mod for the real bumper, last year, some yahoos who I don't think have ever been to a real track event, telling my that it was a stupid idea, and wouldn't hold up since it wasn't mounted on the chassis, well, guess they have never seen where a 951 front hook mounts

Here are some tow hooks that have "PASSED" PCA & NASA tech at track events, I don't know who did them (but I do know who DIDN'T) but this is scary.. And remember, the loop I used is designed to hold heavy stuff on a trailer, even if it cost less than $10 with Grade 8 hardware.

Amazing how much difference it makes to get rid of the rubber. Is the bumper moved back?

Just an FYI...
I had that same Lowes hook mounted on my old NA bumper and it didnt hold up flat towing the car home from the track( about 25 miles). It didnt break but it was seriously deformed and I didnt trust it after that, but for less the 10 bucks who cares. You could replace it 10+ times for the cost of the Rennline hook I have now.
