Default help removing CV joint.

I just need a quick clarification. I'm trying to change the rear wheel bearing but I cannot seem to remove the cv joint from behind the hub. It seems like it should just pull back far enough that it'll go on the floor. Am I off? Do I need to remove it from the transmission also?

I had to drop the transmission side also and remove the entire half shaft. I don't think there is enough room with the way the trailing arm is shaped to just remove the hub side and let it hang like many other cars allow.

An oh boy that thing is filthy. It needs a bath big time.

Transmission can stay in. Remove the six bolts on the inboard CV joint as well as outboard. Separate the inboard CV from the flange. Lifting it up and away (toward the center of the car) will let you pull the outboard CV off the hub.

I found something a little scary. The inside spindle of the hub is covered in red dust. I assume that's rust dust and that is a little frightening. Is that normal? I also need to punch the spindle through the back of the trailing arm right? It doesn't seem to want to budge so I just wanted to double check.

Correct. It may retain the inner bearing race - which you'll either have to press or cut off.

Then you'll need a pusher tool of some sort (arnworks or SIR) to push the bearing out of the arm (remove the snap ring, first...)

I am a little stuck again. I removed the first drive shaft and then moved on to the other side. My problem is that I had to remove the rotor so I have no ebrake. With no ebrake the drive shaft turns as I try to loosen it. I have the rotor side of it loose but not the transmission side. I put the car into gear and it still doesn't hold the drive shaft in place. ideas?

Use a large screw driver or pry bar between heads to two adjacent bolts on the inboard sized to provide "counter leverage".

Any hints as to remove the hub. I've been pounding it with a hammer and a punch. I've tried a ratchet that exactly fits in there, I'm affraid I'm going to start breaking things. That being said, I don't really know what I could break....the bearing that I'm going to replace?

Get a bigger hammer. Spin the nut on the axle stub before though to protect the shaft end.

So my hub is pitted for some reason. The bearings don't seem to be that bad but I don't think I can use that hub again can I?

That hub's in pretty rough shape... I'd see if you can find another used one around here.
