Good GoPro mounting points?

I also have that early non-HD GoPro "Motorsports Version" and I'm ready to sell it off or throw it away. The video quality varies from mediocre to awful, the sound is unusable. Worst thing is the mounting system, the connection on the bottom of the camera is 90-degrees from what it should be, and none of their accessory mounts are any good IMO. They don't even offer a ball mount, which would be the most useful.

i got the HD motorsports hero2 version. i felt it needed a type of extension it was lacking to point it at a rightangle to the mount. This one i wanted came with the sold-separately rollbar mount.

This is some good stuff guys! I like the B-pillar, front windshield, and rear tow hook mount. Anybody have a clip of a rear hatch mount pointed backwards? I'm going to try it anyways and post something after the weekend. I guess the suction cup should hold onto the body panels as well as it does on the glass? If so, I may try mounting on the side. I was thinking maybe lower on the door or fender, to show the wheel turning in and out.

i think some angles suit multi camera setups so you can switch between shots when you edit. i can't wait to get another!

Can't say whether they hold well enough to panels at race speeds, but they do fine up to 40 or so. Obviously you'll want to tether it!!

J1NX3D: Wow, what a great video!!! Makes me want to sell the 951 and get my private pilots license. I've been wanting to do that since I was 14 in 1976. However, it would be much cooler to pull up in the 951 and then go for a flight! This has got me thinking.

All that preparing and the gopro crapped out after one session! The worst part is a shelby cobra spun right in front of me, and the gopro didn't record it. It has bad battery connection and is hard to turn and keep on. When you finally get it on, it freezes a lot. Since my gp is old, I'm going to either purchase a new one or maybe look into other alternatives. Does anybody have good/bad reliability experiences with new gopros or recommend other cameras that mount easily with suction cups?

Right AFTER I bought my non-HD GoPro, I started hearing of all kinds of problems that were addressed in the HD version, including greatly improved microphone. But there are other alternatives and the big guys (Sony and Canon) are into the market. I'll never buy anotehr GoPro just because of the frustration with mounts.

the mic is still rubbish on the HD hero2. i would look at getting a skeleton housing and an external mic for internal camera mounts if you still want sound. I film with the forethought I might not bother using the sound when editing.
well, my friend with the 924 didn't end up picking up my gopro as the tarmac rally event was 4 hrs away, he didnt think he'd get it back to me in time for using on the carrera on Sunday. it didnt end up going on the carrera either due to the mount not being fitted during scrutineering. That, and I got there 5 mins after the racing started.
i did go for a little drive up the road from home afterwards which i'll post if i get time tonight.
