Default California emissions

Need to get an oxygen sensor for a '88 N/A. They're asking if it has California emissions. It doesn't mention anything on the emissions sticker under the hood. Is that how I would tell?

Option code M027 designated a California version. The sticker is under the carpet in the rear hatch area. Check out this site for more info: http://www.944online.com/cgi-bin/ASI...tioncodes.html

My understanding is that all 944's shipped to the USA had CATs and O2 sensors. My '88 was not a California car, but a Federal car and it passed CA. inspection and smog when I registered it.

CA cars had a heating element to the O2 sensor.

All three and 4 wire wire O2 sensors have a heated element.

The black wire is for the signal.

Never solder the wires. Use the Bosch Posilock provided.
If you solder (or poor/bad crimp) the wires, the O2 signal is not accurate to the DME.

Read what the Bosch Sensor Development engineer says:
Part 1
https://rennlist.com/forums/331261-post9.html
and
https://rennlist.com/forums/331265-post13.html

Now, interchange info:

EDIT NOTE --the current Bosch universal is 15735 with the posilock-(the 15725 is out of date)

https://rennlist.com/forums/331271-post19.html
and
https://rennlist.com/forums/331279-post27.html

Or just read it all:
https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...placement.html

Now, did you get the Bosch O2 sensor or the knockoff?

GL
John

I believe they also got the altitude compensating module for the DME?

mine's a three wire and I'm getting the Bosch with the plug already on it #13011. Think it's $85 on Amazon.
