Tire selection really stinks. Suggestions?
To begin with I'm keeping the cookie cutters. So I have a 15x7 rim to put sticky rubber on. It appears that the last of the high performance 215/60-15 DOT tires are gone as of a few months ago. This is what I've been told during recent shopping this week.
I just have to have a tire similar in performance to the Proxies or BFG G-force. I'm asking you guys if you've seen something out there that I've missed or a different size tire on this rim size that works well.
If I go to a 225/45-15 there is a selection, but I am not too sure about a "45" series on this car with these rims. It could be an expensive disaster!

I ran Yoko ES100 in 225/50/15 for years and liked them until they stopped making them. You can get Proxies in this size still or P-Zero's or Ecsta's.

Should be great for a street car and Ok for an occasional DE.

My reccomendation would be the Hankook RS3 in a 225/45/15.
Great street summer tire and can take a bunch of abuse...

You should not have any issues with the wheel tire combo...

Hmm. I just did three searches for topics that address good tires for 15 x 7 rims and found nothing that specifically addresses this size. Sorry to annoy you StoogMoe. Jeeze. Be nice, would you?
I really wanted those ES100's, but I waited too long. Thanks for the replies. Toyos are always decent and I'm glad to hear a vote for the Hankook.
Last question: Do any of you find that the 50 or 45 series tires leave the wheel wells looking more empty than they already do with this rim, or is it just not enough of a difference to notice?

225/50 is a tiny tire. ran one of those on the front for a while. left a lot of wheel well open. a 45 would be even shorter. i would not recommend it unless you lower the car as far as it will go.
i have the falken 912 on the front of my car in 215/60 and will be getting 225/60 for the rear hopefully tomorrow. i have had the fronts for 6 months now and am pleased with them. quiet, still sticky, easy to steer, inexpensive, and a warranty...maybe not ideal, but i drive the **** out of my car daily and the tire has performed well.
i am fairly certain though this will be my last set of 15" tires. don't want to change but tire selection is forcing my hand.
