Default headlights up and down problem

My mechanic has been trying to fix my headlight problem....they won't go up and down as designed.....we tried three different motors, new relays, anew headlight switch, traced the wires and syncronized the levers....they still aren't right......anything we missed that we can try????????? Any suggestions will be appreciated.....

They won't go up and down and if I put them up manually they will go down when they are turned off but then they continue up and down until I turn off the key...

check the wires just before the plug on the motor- right at the bend they start to break and make all kinds of funny problems.

The up/down cycle is controlled by a rotary switch - if the contacts get dirty it can cause them to cycle up and down continuously - but it's not the only thing that could cause it. Another user (CyCloNe!) had that issue a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a relay. Do a search for his thread.

Also check Clark's Garage, he describes exactly how the mechanism works and how to clean the rotary switch.

+1 on the switch. I'd just replace the dang thing, or find a donor car to test the idea.

Pretty easy to pull it out of the donor car too. Take ya five mins tops.

Mine was the relay (white!) on the headlight motor. Opened it up, cleaned it, good to go.
