Default threaded insert for fuel tank strainer broke loose! How to fix it?

I needed something easy to do to take my mind off my engine build and decided to clean the fuel strainer and replace the gasket riing. I used no real force but instead of unscrewing the strainer filter the entire threaded insert broke free from the plastic tank. Now I'm faced with yet another of those trivial things that end up taking weeks to fix.

I searched the fourms but found no references to this happening before. So my question is how do I bond the insert back in the tank?

Oh man! Sorry to hear about this.

Polysulfide. Expensive and fuel resistant. PR-1422 B-1/2 aircraft integral fuel tank polysulfide sealant available from SEMCO. Hate to think about what it costs. Don't suppose you know an A&P that works at a local plane yard?

Hello, Were you able to get the Fuel Strainer out of the Threaded Insert? The Insert has to be removed from the Fuel Tank in order to properly clean all the old adhesive from the Tank inside and outside surface and Insert. Clean the surface with Marsol or 100% Denatured Alcohol. The use of PR-1422 B 1/2Aircraft Fuel Tank Sealant sets up fairly fast to the touch, but should cure out for at least 24 hours before Fuel is introduced. Temperature and Humidity will also affect the cure time.

Cheers,
Larry

Yes. the insert is separated from the strainer. I have dibs on a new tank for $100. I think I will go that route. I will have to import the sealant, which is hazmat and will have to be shipped by boat. I might get the sealant at a later stage anyway so I can fix my tank and sell it.

Thanks to all who replied.

Norway doesn't have a lot of activity when it comes to experimental aircraft, but if you ask around at a smaller airport you may find someone building a plane nearby. They refer to it as "Proseal", but they would probably be happy to give you some.
