Default 3" cone filter adapter for AFM

I have a custom made adapter for a 3" air filter. This bolts onto your air flow meter... it's pretty self explanatory!

$40 shipped anywhere in the US.

Why the square cut out? That looks like it bolts to the AFM not the throttle body.

So I'm at Pick-Your-Part today minding my own business when I happened upon something interesting. I was looking for something else entirely. ....but could not unsee what had been seen.

I pulled out my phone thinking I may snap a picture than kick around the idea of going back for it if google backed up my suspicions. Well, about a second later I decided I had to have it. ....and yes, it's what you think it is.

It looked like something I've seen go for crazy money on ebay and I figured it couldn't be more than $20.00 and I've risked that kind of money once or twice in my life. When I got it up to the window the guy wanted $1.25 out the door. Well, considering it cost me $2.00 just to get in the gate I figured it was basically free with a total of $3.25 invested.

Got it home and sure enough, it bolted right up to a spare AFM I had sitting on the shelf.

How do you like them apples?

I think it was an early 80's 3 series BMW of some sort. It was the only one there and I should have paid closer attention. Here is a picture of it on a part at Pelican:

The second picture is of it still on the BMW and the third one is it bolted to my spare AFM sitting on my tool box.

Speaking of Pick-Your-Part, they had a stunning 944 in the "car looks to good to part out" holding lot up front for $2499. The Fuchs alone would cover half that. It was almost a lavender metallic. Would be perfect for you. Swear it was the cleanest '44 I've ever seen.

Yep it was Milliken. Interior was above average. I'm thinking I'll head back there tomorrow and get back to looking for what I was actually looking for. I'll snap some shots of the 944. I can't fathom seeing that one go to the yard.

For sake of clarity, please explain exactly how this bolts up to stock air intake system, with particular detail of how the flow goes from the circular section through the square section.

Unless the round-to-square passage is faired, it will bugger the airflow beyond belief.

OTOH, obviously my understanding is lacking, so pls. explain.

Also importantly, for those using the BMW-derived Bosch intake systems, got more detail?

Basically our afm's are buggered up anyway, they come stock with a rectangular input and round output. So that adapter fits perfectly to the input and allows a round cone filter to fit on the end. Won't bugger the airflow anymore than stock.

As to their value? I think the stock cold air intake is very well designed and probably better than a cone filter in the hot engine bay.
