Default 205's and 245's..thoughts

I was seriously thinking it was time to make the move to 17's or 18's, but now that TR has the RE-11's, I'm still on the fence.

I have two sets of 16" wheels. The original phone dials in 7" and 8" and a set of 993 wheels in 7" and 9".
The P/D's need refinishing badly but the 993's are in great shape.

In addition to a complete suspension refresh / upgrade, I'm converting to a manual rack. Strictly a street car.

The P/D's were 205 front / 225 rear
The 993's came mounted with 225 front / 245 rear and I love the look with a minor exception.

The 225/50 on a 7" rim look a little bulged compared to the 245/45's out back.

So my questions:
Should I leave well enough alone as far as sizes above, or drop down to a 205/55 in front for a lighter tire and easier steering on the street with the manual rack?

Detrimental to handling to get that far away from a "square" setup?
