Stay in gear down hills, then your brakes will last longer as you can use engine braking. The marginal amount of extra gas you save by going into neutral won't match the cost of a fresh set of pads/rotors. You won't get much more than 20-21mpg out of the car around town and should be able to hit 27-30 on the highway. Use cruise control when its safe, even in 45mph areas, and you will get a slight improvement in milage.

Most of the time when I drive it I just go around the neighborhood because my car needs some work, so I don't feel safe driving it long distances. Since my trips are so shot, the engine doesn't warm up all the way. When my engine is cold I shift at lower RPM's. When I get this thing back on the road I'll see what it's like when it's warmed up.
I went ahead and took up Van's offer and bought his turbo transmission (for an amazing price!), so we'll see what the gearing is like once that's installed.
No thoughts on this?
