Default Now Running Depowered

Hey guys just finished depowering my rack. That main steering u-joint clamp is the devil. I do have a question, I depowered my steering rack the same way it was done in ye old pdf how to and I'm just checking but mine is really hard to steering until like 30mph. Is that normal? I knew it would be hard but dang I thought the grease would help a little feels just like when you have no fluid in the stock rack.

Any who it was a great learning experience and I have the pdf if anyone wants it. Thanks for your input guys!

What kind of grease did you put in it? How wide are your tires? My depowered rack is fine as soon as I get it creeping a little bit.

I used the red hi-temp grease like used for wheel bearings.. maybe I used too much? Right now I just have stock tire sizes on the phonies.

I did notice before I tightened the top plate on the rack where you access the piston and bearings the rack was easy to rotate, after I tightened down the bolts it was 2-3times harder to move.

Well I loosened 2 of the 3 bolts on top of the power steering rack and now that sucker is waaaaay better like half of what it was and only really hard when I'm sitting still 5mph and up its pretty easy.

When I did my rack I took the lazy way out and kept the tie rods and sway bar on, honeslty they didn't need to be removed anyway. You get a little clearance with the sway bar gone and it's easier to install the tie rods off the car, but ehhh.

You're supposed to remove the spring and find a washer or something that fits in there to take the play out of the rack.

you open the rack, take out the two clips and metal piece, and fill with grease. Mine was hard to steer for a week or so but then got easier. It also takes some getting used to. Parking lots are not your friend, but are doable. there was a pdf file showing how to do it but I cant find it now

I have the pdf and removed everything the pdf said to, it didn't mention removing the little spring behind that plate where the ground wire connects. I'll remove it and see if it helps some with the ease of rotation. I will post the PDF today after work, I originally planned to do a full how-to but ran into a few issues and just focused on getting it done.

I'll break down the PDF into a how-to thread so everyone can access it and see if I can attach it to the thread in pdf as well. Honestly it's not bad when I'm taking turns and going really slow its a bit tough but easy to deal with. I'll let you know if the spring removal helps any as well.
