Who Waves?
#31
There are very few old Porsches running around the streets of North Dallas. All are 993 or newer 911s, Cayennes, Boxsters, Caymans, Panameras... zero waves. Except from one smart Cayman S driver last month! First wave. Only took 8 months.
I saw my first other 944 in 8 months (since I got mine) also about a month ago, but I was driving the S8 that day. Also the day I came across a 928 S4. Ohhhh, really wished I had taken my P-car those days! Waving would have been awkward, but I do otherwise.

I get more waves from 911 drivers. almost always from turbos. never from boxters . always 944s.

I wave if close or one flash, but find that 100% of Panamera and cheyenne drivers don't. Limited success with Boxster's and Cayman's. Newer watercooled cars - 50/50. Depends on the driver.
If man/woman sees their Porsche as a prestige car - they do not wave.
If man/woman drives it because it is a Porsche - they wave.

I always wave at other Porsche drivers.
If you ever see a Zermatt Silver Metallic 944, a Black 996T, or a Riviera Blue 997.1T in the greater Akron area, wave back!

Funny this is a topic being discussed over at the Corvette forum as well. C1 to C4 drivers wave at each other, the C5 and C6 owners rarely do seems to be the norm.
I wave at other p-cars get about half responses. I don't even try the SUV folks.
When I was driving a '86 Fiero GT I only saw one other Fiero while on the road. He waved at me like we were long lost college buddies. lol

You should be waving at these:
The difference is subtle, but it's there if you know what to look for. Sort of like the Cayenne and the Touareg:

When I had a 2000 Beetle I waved at every 911.
Only got flipped off a couple of times.

I wave at all Porsches, including the Cayennes (from my 996). My return rate is pretty low (here in the DC area lots of owners who are not enthusiasts). I even wave at pcars across a median, hundreds of feet away. I don't care. I also have to restrain myself from waving at pcars when I'm walking down the street or driving a totally different make. Maybe I'll start and see what happens . . . .
