Default WTT: fifth gear from n/a trans for turbo short fifth

i just bought an LSD trans for my spec car and i would like to install the shorter fifth gear from a turbo trans or late n/a "89". If anyone is building a v8 car this swap will give you a higher top speed and better cruising rpm, and the shorter gear will allow my car to accelerate better in fifth gear on the track. Just want to swap. Thanks!

Dan you're welcome to swap the trans from the red car. It's up at my brother's place.

i think the 88 fifth is the same as my 87, 89 is a different story. Ben i'll take you up on that, just need Sammy to bring it down sometime to Cincy. Thanks!

You sure the na 88 short fifth is different? It's what I've got in mine.

You don't want up to 86.....

I thought 87 on up were all short

don't think my 87 has the short fifth, it doesn't feel like it in the straight. My new trans is from an 86 though-LSD- and I'm getting the turbo fifth to install. I'll check the chart again...

Dan if the 88 works out, again your welcome to it. I can drop it off at Sam's if he's heading down to Cinci. I don't know if Bens is on the car or not so what ever is easier.
Ben if you need a hand let me know.

If you do end up with another short 5th I'd be interested in the second one. I wouldn't need it until Road America, so maybe someone could bring it to Autobahn in July.

Actually, the 944 Turbo has the shorter gear set. This is desirable for the NA track cars. I went through this whole scenario when i lost 5th gear in my 89TS at Homestead. The NA gear sets are way abundant, but the turbo's are getting scarce. I lucked out and found mine in a couple of different sources, and unfortunately, one of them was dealer only (Idler gear). I am in the process of stripping out a Turbo Trans for the ring & pinion, and will sell of the ENTIRE 5th gear set if anyone is interested. Here is a link. http://www.clarks-garage.com/951faq.htm

Cheers!!

Rob, I'd be willing to do that if you could have the short 5th to me by July 1 or earlier.
