Default Timing belt rub

Hello all RnR the front end of an 85.5 engine, and all is great except for the fact that now my timing belt is rubbing against the back engine cover. I checked all of my spacers and they seem to be in order. I have two thick washers on the back of the tensioner and one on the back of the roller. The crank cam seems fine as does the cam gear. Not 100% sure how to attack this one. I did put a new water pump on, and a local guy is postulating that it is not flat on the back and is mounted at an angle causing the belt to ride owards the back. It is rebuilt, and I never heard of such a thing.

Any one want to venture a guess. I think my crank gear is not in the right plane....

Your crank gear was probably put on backwards. I forget which way it is supposed to go. I'm sure somebody knows.

Lip on the crank gear goes to the front of the car which is kind of counterintuitive.
