Hello Rennlister's, Its been about a month since my last post. "Bad day Destroyed the ring and pinion in my car" Well I managed to find another transmission out of the same year car it has just over a 100000 on it. So I was planning on swapping out the tranny. Yesterday I stumbled across an awesome deal I couldn't turn down. I got a 1987 944 same color as mine but this one is in awesome shape. No cracks on the dash nothing missing and everything is working and intact in the interior. This car has been well taken car of in fact I got it from the 3rd owner (who acquired the car through a bankruptcy. The only problem he said the car made a ticking noise and then the engine blew. He told me that he went to the porsche dealer they said it was a rod and bearing. So now I am planning on swapping engines. The 87 car is the 2.5 engine as well. The one thing I am not sure of is do I have to use the computer from the 85.5 with the engine or will the 87 computer just plug right into the harness and work.
Thanks Guys

A ticking before an engine failure is normally the valves hitting the pistons. A knocking is normally heard before your rods bearings give out. That engine might just need a head.

He said the he took it to Porsche and they he spun a bearing?? Is there an easy way to verify any of this? I was thinking I could just put the engine from the 85.5 car in this one and take what ever is still good on the 87 engine, and replace some components on the older engine. Then with the blown engine out I can inspect it further and maybe bring it to a shop and have them rebuild it. All in all I just want the easiest route and least $$$ to get my new wheels on the road. I think I am getting porsche fever. I apreciate all the input from everyone this is the best forum.
