Autocross
Just got back from a local autocross put on by the corvette club. I did not take my 944 out on the track but I went as a passenger in a 914.... I think i might have the autocross bug now.
Here is a link to an album of pictures, I will post up a few videos once they are uploaded.http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...1&l=542fc6b4ff

i was at eurofest today at met-life stadium in NJ, there was an auto-x event in another lot. saw a couple 944's go around, pretty entertaining to watch, especially when one of the next cars is a mustang and it doesn't quite make the first turn

I tried my 1st AX about 2 months after I got my car 2 years ago and was hooked, (did a DE but did not like the "crowed feeling" i got on the track from very aggressive drivers and the instructor not dealing with it), I love AX, no one to hit or hit me, really tests your skill and allows you to practice in a safe environment....best $30 I spend on just me, and lets not forget it is a Porsche benign driven the way a Porsche was designed to be.

I started in Autocross in my 944 Turbo. That was in 1998. Then by October 2000 I built my 84 944 for the local autocross scene. It was alot of fun, but then I went racing with it and just did not have time for autocross any longer.

What autocross has taught me:
When the Corvette club sponsors, you get wide, sweeping turns, huge gates and is generally a slow track (1m+). Rarely does the track cross over on itself. In the staging lanes will be the Miata guys checking tire pressure and chalking tires. The Corvette guys will be wiping down their car and complaining about having to work the course. FTD will be a Miata. The fastest Corvette will be .3 seconds slower than the guy who showed up with the 4-door Accord on street tires and factory suspension.
When the Miata club sponsors, you get tight gates, sharp corners and almost always a slalom in the most inappropriate area. Good chance the track will cross over itself three times and it'll be fast (<50s). In the staging lanes will be the Miata guys checking tire pressure and chalking tires. The Corvette guys will be wiping down their car and complaining about having to work the course. FTD will be a Miata. Many of the Corvettes will DNF because they got lost on the track.
