Currently we are running the 28mm front sway bar, and the stock 15mm rear sway bar.
And yes the 800 lb gorilla is indeed just staying on the track... but from what I've seen at the couple races that we've done is that there are quite a few teams that have been doing this for long enough to have a very intimate understanding of their car, and have not only made it almost bulletproof, but also tuned them to be a few seconds a lap up on everyone else. There were two turbo Saabs and an SHO who exemplified this last weekend by having no problems and being faster than everyone else... Even if we had stayed on track the entire time this past weekend, we'd have only finished 8th, based on our average laptimes, and that was with a relatively small (only 24 car) grid. While this would still have been an awesome result, its still fun to push forward by making incremental changes to the car, continuing to get our drivers more experience, and learning and fixing the weak points, so that just maybe, in a couple races, if the front runners DO run into trouble, we could find ourselves in a good position to ****** a podium.

Re: engine swap...
Take a look at the Honda J35. It is quite compact, makes good power (generally >250hp), and since Honda put them in everything (Odyssey, MDX, TL, ect - they even were put into the Saturn Vue from 2004-2007).
A quick search on www.car-part.com shows more then a few engines from the Vue for $3-500.

If that's the case, and there are actually some crossover parts from the LT1 kit, that could make everything a little easier if I went that route....
And with regard to the J35, does anyone know which accessories live on which end of the block? I assume that there could be some hurdles with that, since its set up for transverse mounting and front wheel drive....

Quick question for you Chumpcar 944 guys... what are you running for brakes/pads? And how are they lasting / working for you?
My team has run 4 events, and we keep having pad material buildup problems on the rotors, and for the last race went completely through a set of pads (16 hours into a 24 race)...
Thanks!

We run the Hawk Blue pads on the fronts and the Hawk HP+ on the rears. We can outbrake just about everything (usually we're right there with the miatas).... One set lasted us through 12 hours of driving at Road Atlanta plus another 12-13 hours at BeaveRun (both tracks have really heavy braking zones) and they're just about done, so we've been really happy with them.
