Default sometimes won't start

so, my 951 will sometimes just crank over and not start. its random. I would say 80% of the time it starts up right away, but every once in a while it will just crank and crank, but not fire up. had the battery tested at advanced auto and he said battery was fine, but the alternator might be bad, but his little tool was not an accurate measure of the alternator. I was going to take it to a shop to have the alternator tested, but figured I would post up here first. anyone have any ideas? would like to have it fixed before hershey, as that would be super embarrasing if it happened there...

Reference sensors - do you have tach bounce when it happens.

A bad alternator will not usually cause a no start issue. Starting is purely from battery. Check your voltage with the engine off and compare it to when your engine is running for a good idea if your alternator is bad or not.

Intermittant no-start is normally caused by bad reference/speed sensors or a bad wire to/from them. I'd suggest checking the clearances and cleaning these sensors. Also, check the resistance of the wires.

Your issue may also be caused by a dying factory alarm? If it did have one, have a read through Clarks-garage and try manually disabling your alarm.

Fuel pressure? my car had hard starting occasionally, until the fpr finally failed. Then the car would only start and idle for a few seconds and then die. Pressure tester indicated fuel pressure spikes.

It doesn't die if it starts. Runs great. Only issue is that every once in a while, like 4 times over the last 2-3 months it just keeps cranking and wont start. It will start right up if I leave it alone for a little bit, like nothing ever happened. Super weird. Also, I meant no "tach jump", not "yacht jump". Stupid auto correct...
